San Diego Writer Girl

Welcome!

Welcome to the website of Lisa Christiano Rose, San Diego Writer Girl on the loose. I've been writing professionally for more than 15 years, as both a copywriter and journalist. A year ago, I began blogging and this new-found amusement has taken over where my bucket of cookies left off. I must say, blogging is easier on the hips.

My writing style, so I've been told, is clever, concise and targeted. That comes in handy when you're trying to reach people with a message.

As a copywriter, I make various recommendations when my clients embark on a marketing campaign. Here are some of them:

1. Know your audience.

You should have a clear understanding of the demographic profile of your customer base.

2. Develop a web site that is:

  • targeted to your specific audience
  • easy to read
  • easy to navigate
  • bulleted wherever possible
  • balanced with a good use of white space (cluttered sites are overwhelming and passed over)
  • proofread thoroughly (spend the money on a professional proofreader)
  • pleasing to the eye - professional use of graphics and visuals.

2. Create a blog.

Blogging is an ideal and cost-effective way to disseminate your message. Essentially, you are promoting your business while providing free, educational information to existing and potential customers. SEO keywords incorporated into your blog will increase your priority level in browser searches.

3. Post cards.

If you're set on doing a direct mail piece, opt for post cards over letters. People will read a postcard. They will most likely not open a mass-mailing letter.

4. Give back to your community.

An excellent way to get your business name circulated is to donate your time and/or money to local causes. Sponsor a sports team. Offer a workshop. Provide free or discounted services to people in need. Give to a scholarship fund. There are endless ways to promote your business by being of service in your community.

As a journalist, I enjoy writing feature stories that delve deeper into the subject. I've done hard news and frankly, I derive nothing but heartburn from it.

As a blogger, I relish the unlimited creative freedom. It has made me more keenly aware of the unusual and amusing aspects of everyday life. I live to unearth the funny and to shine a light on what connects us.
