Welcome!

Welcome to the website of Lisa Christiano Rose, San Diego Writer Girl. I've been writing professionally for more than 15 years wearing various hats: copywriter, journalist, public relations writer for special events, social media manager and blogger.

My writing style is clever, concise and lends itself to myriad applications: ad copy, feature stories, public relations and web content.

I make various recommendations when my clients embark on a marketing campaign.

Here are some of them:

1. Know your audience.

You should have a clear understanding of the demographic profile of your customer base.

2. Develop a web site that is:

  • targeted to your specific audience
  • easy to read
  • easy to navigate
  • bulleted wherever possible
  • balanced with a good use of white space (cluttered sites are overwhelming and passed over)
  • proofread thoroughly (spend the money on a professional proofreader)
  • pleasing to the eye - professional use of graphics and visuals.

3. Create a blog.

Blogging is an ideal and cost-effective way to disseminate your message. Essentially, you are promoting your business while providing free, educational information to existing and potential customers. SEO keywords incorporated into your blog will increase your priority level in browser searches. Blogspot.com and Word Press are two commonly used blogging hosts that provide templates that even a novice blogger can decipher.

4. Establish an internet presence.

The viability of your business depends on it. It’s more than creating a website or blogging. It’s about connecting with your customers and potential customers. Social media tools like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter allow you to interact with the consumer in a way that cultivates a relationship.  A successful internet presence isn’t about “you, the business.” It’s about how you can offer your customers content that helps them solve the problems they face.

5. Toot your own horn.

Promote yourself. Even if you're a small business with a shoe-string budget, you can do this. Tout your greatest achievements. Create awareness of your brand/name. Write a press release in journalistic style that ties your product or service to an event and send it to your local media outlets. Add a magnetic sign to your car. Offer free lectures on your product or service. Attend trade shows or street fairs. Utilize email marketing services like Constant Contact to send blasts to your customer base and potential clients.

If you're set on doing a direct mail piece, opt for post cards over letters. People will read a postcard. They will most likely not open a mass-mailing letter.

6. Give back to your community.

An excellent way to get your business name circulated is to donate your time and/or money to local causes. Sponsor a sports team. Offer a workshop. Provide free or discounted services to people in need. Give to a scholarship fund. There are endless ways to promote your business by being of service in your community.

7. Hire me to help you do it.

Save yourself the enormous cost of hiring a PR or ad agency. I work on retainer or at an hourly rate that is very affordable and negotiable.
